Unit 5

I think Curriculum Based Measurement system is very beneficial; it is an excellent tool to measure students learning. I can see the benefits for teachers and parents at the same time. It would be very helpful to test students’ progress weekly but I think that teachers would need to take one day of the week to test every single student specially if they are secondary students. It would take a great amount of time doing this. I would say an average class of 20 students in each hour period, which would be 120 students that I would need to test every week, plus I would have to enter all the scores in the system.

It is a time consuming system but it is something that would work for teachers’ parents and students because it is something visual were students can actually see their progress of their learning and can be motivated for them. Also, would be nice for the teacher to keep track of what she/he have being teaching and it could help them to do some teaching adjustments to their lessons.

It is a tool that I would definitive I would use to keep track of my students learning and progress.

Am I exited about Interaction Whiteboard? Who will not benefit from white board?

Interactional white board does not make me exited. Not sure if it is because I have never use one or because they are almost just like an Elmo to me. I have read information about all the things it can do, which sounds like fun. As I was reading about them I was concerning about the shy students and who do not like to collaborate much in the classroom. Those students will be left out with this tool. When I was doing my teacher assisting there where a few students who prefer working by themselves and I respected that.

How Virtual Schools affect me as educator? Are there groups who benefit from this?

I understand that Virtual School can be very beneficial for students. It offers a lot more flexibility on their schedules and on the preference on classes. On the other hand this program can be dangerous for educators. Virtual Schooling could provoke lost of educators jobs. One instructor can manage at least three classes at a time because she /he does not have to be in a classroom teaching. As educator I might have last chances to get a job if virtual Schools continue to grow. Personally I do not like virtual School but I know that students are getting encourage everyday to use Virtual Schooling.

Are interested on using Interactive Whiteboard?

Yes and no,  I am interested, depends on the situation. If I am teaching in a school with high resources and can provide almost about everything, yes I would be happy to use Interactive whiteboards. It would be fun for the students and for me to teach on it. On the other hand, if I am teaching on a low income school and they give me a choice from a interactive white board and laptops or tablets I would prefer tablets or laptops. I think teaching with a tool that you can control while learning is almost like hands on so it would be more interactive for the whole class.

Are you interested in Virtual Schooling and on line learning?

As right now I am not interested online classes and learning unleast, the situation is different. By saying that is that I can only take online classes if it is mandatory as on the situation I am right now. I am taking this class online in order to graduate other wise I would never had chosen to take this class online. like I say before on my first post, I rather attend to class where I can see the teacher delivering the information face to fece. As a mom I think that from K-8 should be though at our traditional schools because kids at this age are lacked of responsibility on the other hand, high schoolers and higher education should have the choice to select online or face to face classes.

Interactive Whiteboard

I have had not much experience with whiteboards but I have read about them and I have seen them at Allendale GVSU library. It sounds and looks like they are fun to use in classrooms because it can get students attention and engaged on the subject. I also think that using Whiteboards in classrooms, teachers must have to be very creative to get the most of the benefits of this tool and get everyone to collaborate on the work. Even that I think they are fun, I think that it would be more beneficial if each student would have a tablet or a computer to work with. Using one of this devises students could have the opportunity to go back and forth as necessary on their information presented. It would be more hands on, on learning.

The only place I have seen this type of whiteboards are in GVSU new library. The first time I saw it I was like WOW! But that wear out soon. I thought it was very awesome how the professor was using it, but it felt like it did not helped me at all. It was just like an Elmo and a projector, nothing more and nothing less.

Unit 4

Week 7

Blog Post
Virtual Schools

I think Virtual Schooling is design for some people depending on their way of learning. I know that Virtual School is becoming the number one system that educators are using in this 21 Century but all depends on the learners. Virtual Schooling has its pros and cons for me as student. Online classes, I can take classes that are not available at my college, learn how to navigate in the Internet better, how to be independent, and I can do my work when I am available. But as an English learner I would prefer assist to a class in order to learn the message clearly. It feels a lot more comfortable when I am on front of a teacher. It makes me learn and understand better when the professor/teacher is communicating verbally, and I could seed her/his facial expressions and body movements. In fact, I am not even sure what would be the best way to learn. On my experience, this is the only online class that I have ever taken. I think that online classes are very beneficial to students in high school and higher education. At this age students are responsible to follow directions and to engage in their work. Students in elementary and middle school I do not think they have the responsibility to take education seriously. They still need an adult to constantly remain them what to do and how to do the work. This students lock the motivation to be responsible for online classes.

Cyber bullying Summarized

I have found this cyber bullying story about a thirteen year old girl who committed suicide last summer from Wyoming Michigan. The school staff are taking many precautions about cyber bullying or any kind bullying to provide help for students on many different ways. They are working on getting students comfortable to report any kind of bullying to teachers and counselors in the school so they have created a anti bullying campaign. this gives students the opportunity to seek help. They found out that almost all of the students have being bullied at a certain time of their life and they want students to know that reporting bully is very important because it can lead to a mortal situation just like what happen to this thirteen year old girl.
